Sunroom Decorating Tips

A sunroom is a great way to open up your house to a view of the natural elements, allowing you to bask in the sunlight and enjoy the views of your garden.

Whilst the views from your sunroom can be spectacular, adding to the overall ambience of the experience by carefully planning and designing the interior of your new sunroom can only increase your enjoyment of the experience.

To ensure maximum enjoyment of your sunroom, consider the following ideas when planning and designing its interior.

Use a Water Feature in your Sunroom

Apart from balancing the element of the sun, water also can actually contribute to making your sunroom more energy efficient by decreasing the temperature in the room in summer, thus reducing the need to run air conditioning.

There are many options to introduce a water element into your four seasons sunroom, some of them might include;

Adding an aquatic garden. By using a large glass container or barrel, and placing aquatic plants in it, you can create a pleasant environment. You might even consider adding a couple of goldfish to help keep the algae levels down.

Another idea to add a water feature to your sunroom is to place a water fountain somewhere in the room. There's no doubt that most people find the sound of trickling water mesmerizing and relaxing, and many a person has spent an inordinate amount of time lost in their own thoughts whilst staring at the trickling water of a fountain.

Keep it Light and Airy

Keeping the colour scheme of your sunroom light and airy is a great way to increase the energy efficiency of the room. The sunroom will stay cooler in summer, and warmer during the cooler month, allowing you to use less energy-hungry climate control systems.

Light colours also act as a neutral palette against the colours outside the sunroom, allowing you to more completely enjoy the array of colours from your garden.

An Organic Style Sunroom?

Keep it organic. Using plants, such a ferns and the like give a great organic feel to your sunroom. Using pale browns and greens when decorating adds to the the feeling of being at one with nature.

You could even take it a step further with organic style furniture, such as wicker, and hessian style rugs and cushion covers. These things all increase the sense of "communing with nature"

As you can see, by carefully selecting the style of decoration you apply to your sunroom, you can dramatically enhance the enjoyment you receive while using it. And after all, that's why you built it, isn't it? To enjoy it.
