To keep your hardwood floors in the best possible condition, allowing them to bring forth the warm, homey feeling that they are so well know for, careful and regular maintenance is required.

Traditional cleaning techniques, such as mopping, will damage your beautiful hardwood floors, so specialized techniques and materials are required.

White vinegar is an amazing cleaning agent, suitable for most surfaces where normal cleaning solutions would cause damage. White vinegar works effectively as an organic disinfectant, and surprisingly, doesn't leave a lasting smell.

How to Clean a Hardwood Floor

So on to how to clean hardwood floors using White Vinegar.

  1. Clear the floor of furniture, rugs, and anyhing else, so you have a completely empty room to work with
  2. Sweep, vacuum, and mop the floors with a dry mop. you need to remove as much dust and dirt from the floor as you can.
  3. In a bucket, place 150ml of White Vinegar, and four litres of warm water. Try to place the bucket on a surface other than the hardwood floor, so as to avoid leaving a ring mark on the floor.
  4. Dip the mop in the bucket, and wring it out around half a dozen times. You need the mop to be damp, but not wet.
  5. Mop from one corner of the room out, working your way across the room, until you have mopped the entire floor. If the water in the bucket becomes dirty, change it.
  6. Wipe any excess moisture from the floor, and open the windows and doors to the room, to allow ventilation for the floor to dry
  7. Place your furniture and rugs back in the room when the floors are dry
  8. Enjoy your beautiful clean hardwood floors!

And there it is, if you use White Vinegar to mop your hardwood floors every couple of months, and regularly sweep and dust, your floors will be a feature of your home for many years.

Alternatively, you could hire a professional residential house cleaning service to perform this, or many other cleaning tasks for you.
